Rio Madrid 4 - 1 Zef Side

Structure, composure and fitness ensured triumph in this game. A top of the table clash proved to be one of the most satisfying victories for the proud Rio Madrid team, knocking down Zef Side by 4 goals to 1. R.M. was up against the odds with a limited pool of players to choose from as the Club had kindly released players from their contracts for the festive season, notably the regulars M.S. Greene and A. Verbeek. Only managing to field 5 players there was no room for injury or lethargy, the squad put together a comprehensive display of teamwork and synergy to score all 5 goals of the match...yes Kieran Burton managed to edge one past Goalie Hodges to give the opposition a mark on the board, but made up for it with a number of great saves in goal. Nonetheless 2 goals to Hodges and Young (sounding like the name of a new law firm) put the team convincingly at the top of the ladder. Telfer, true to his form, showed generosity in allowing his teammates to score all the goals...A note must be made regarding the team’s defensive performance; goalies were vocal and communication was rife resulting in limited opportunity for the enemy to shoot. The game was a clean one with good sportsmanship shown from both teams. Players riddled with perspiration at the final whistle proved how competitive the 30 minutes of football were, great work REDS.!

No update from Greene for this post, but it was a hard fought, physical tight game. Good preparation for following weeks top of the table clash!

Rio Madrid 4 - 1 The Bosnian Bombers

A stunning brace from defender A.VerBeek ensured Madrid stay atop of the league with a perfect record and send the Bosnian Bombers crashing to consecutive defeats.
Madrid set out from the get go with some nervous football until the 10 minute mark where some fluency set in after a beautifully constructed goal was calmly slotted home by Hodges. A nice pass to Greene from Young was back heeled to Hodges who stuck it in the bottom right corner.
With J.Telfer out of the side due to SARS, new winter signing A.Byrne from Rangers in the SPL started on the bench and regular starting defender A.Verbeek returned from injury.
These 2 proved to provide a solid backbone for the heart of the Madrid defence after a shakey performance last week.
2 more goals flowed for Madrid after the break both scored by VerBeek with the second of his double being hammered into the top right corner from outside the box.
The bombers then hit back with a rather fortuitous goal after the ball was struck into Hodges and deflected into the left corner of the net. This was the only setback after a brilliant performance in the net by keepers Burton & Hodges.
In the final minutes as the Bombers pushed forward Greene countered down the right wing and calmly finished into the right side of the net to guarantee the Miners a resounding 4 - 1 victory.
Next up Firkin Wanderers who will provide the toughest test of the season after a crushing 7 - 1 defeat of cellar dwellers samgin at the weekend.

Rio Madrid 8 - 6 XI - IV

Exciting, Deadly, Sharp call them what you like but the Red Miners put on a clinic in front of a packed out Lords Stadium on Thursday evening.
Before all the fans could find there seats Madrid started the score sheet with a flourish of goals inside the 5 minute mark. Greene found the net on 3 occasions before being sublimely set up by Zimbabwean international G.Hodges in his 4th start of the season.
Young added 2 before headley slotted home 8 minutes from time after a well constructed passing move finished in a sweet finish. K Burton then found himself with the ball with 4 minutes on the clock, he held the ball up turned his man, burnt through the next defender like last nights curry before hammering one home in the far left corner.
Manager Sir Jonny ball was pleased with the result although he was disappointed with the lack of concentration on defence in the closing minutes.
Next up some Bosnians are being served up on the platter.

Rio Madrid 10 - 3 The Replacement

Rio Madrid cruised to their 4th straight victory after a crushing 10 - 3 defeat to relegation threatened "the replacement" in midweek.
A sell out crowd packed Lords Stadium Subiaco for the Red Miners first home fixture of the year. The crowd soon had something to cheer about 2 minutes in when D.Young poked in the opening goal on what was going to turn out as a stella night for the young striker signed from Johannesburg in the January transfer window of 2010. A quiet season last year with a disappointing 3 goals in all forms of the game has already been blitzed after a 5 goal haul in this outing his 15th for the club and 3rd this season.
With a near full strength line up Rio outclassed the opposition with VerBeek, Hodges, Burton & Greene all adding to the score sheet.
J.Telfer the holding midfielder signed for a record 500 rand in the off season was yellow carded for the first time in his short career with the club. Manager Sir Jonathan "JB HiFi" Ball was quoted after the match describing the incident as "ludacris".

Rio Madrid 5 - 4 Hardly Athletic

Madrid were pegged back before halftime as an opening brace by D. Young were cancelled out before another 2 goals were added.
Down 4 - 2 at the break Madrid made a bold call of bringing on there new star signing from Zimbabwe G. Hodges to occupy the net.
Immedietely after the break a nice interchange between Telfer & Greene led to a nicely placed finish from Greene into the bottom right corner of the net.
Tensions were high as many tough challenges were going in and the physicality hit 5th gear. Verbeek was staunch in the heart of the defence and it was his calmy placed effort that locked it all up 5 minutes from time.
A tense couple of minutes followed with some outstanding resolute goalkeeping by Hodges followed by what some could only label bizaare goalkeeper tennis.
1 minute from time was the moment the 23 strong crowd had been waiting for, some outstanding defence led to a breakaway 1 on 1 with Greene and the defender. Greene opted for pulling the ball wide before smashing an effort into the top corner of the ole onion bag to seal a dramatic 5 - 4 win.
Madrid were all smiles as they go 3 - 0 and look forward to a home fixture next thursday.

Rio Madrid 4 - 1 The Replacement

The look on Jeff Telfers face said it all as he rattled a thunderous headed effort into the crossbar at a packed out Lords Stadium on Thursday.
The Red Miners set a lively pace from the outset striking numerous efforts on goal but without result until a well placed shot from D. Young into the corner opened the scoring.
Following this was some great play throughout the match and a steady flow of goals continued to come with Burton, Greene and Hedley adding to the scorers sheet.
A lot more shooting practise though this week in training will be undertaken as many opportunities were lost.
A great start to the season though as Rio Madrid go 1 and 0 and send out a beacon to the rest of the field as they highlight there credentials for the premiership.

Rio Madrid - Score a lot united 0 - 5

Because of the traffic conditions most of the poeple arrived late and we lost the game. In fact the team could not field enough players within one quarter of the match (around 8 minutes) and it became a forfeit. I remind you that the rules of Lords state that:

Late arrivals Penalties

2 minutes late = 1 goal
Every additional minute thereafter = 1 goal
Penalties must be added before the commencement of the second half.
After the equivalent of one-quarter of the game time elapsing the official may declare the game a forfeit if a team can not field the minimum amount of players to start a game.

We will have another game at 6.00 on Oct 14th, please plan in advance your trip to the stadium considering the traffic conditions at that time of the day.

Rio Madrid 11 - 4 Club Fut

Team what a win we had last night!!
Only myself Darryl James and Alwin showed up so we had to find 2 replacements and luckily we managed to find 2 players that played for perth/australia.
We had some beautiful play and controlled the game throughout. Daz headlined the scoring with 2 goals and James was a force in goal. The new boys contributed 3 each myself 2 and Alwin with 1.
We have a bye next week but after that we will continue our winning form against a team we only lost by 1 goal to earlier in the season.
Coach Darryl's advice for this week as we have a bye "grab yourself a beer and soak up the winning vibe".
Goodnight

Rio Madrid 4 - Akabusi FC 5

Lads another agonising loss to a top team in the competition. We had a great game and were unlucky to not come out with a win.
We played as a team which is great to see. Lots of communication and working hard for each other and it clearly shows in the scoreline.
Player of the Day is going to Alwin today for some fantastic defence and registering himself on the scoresheet.
Next week is the week for us!!!!!!!

Evolution - Rio Madrid 9 - 6

Our team suffered another defeat, a honourable defeat though with the
best team of our league. The game was lost 9 - 6 but a good match was
played by everybody.
Man of the match was James who sacrifices himself in the role of goalkeeper.
Micheal scored a penalty I could catch with my camera (see picture below)

Last Game

Hey Team, Michael here just going to post a reaction to our game last week which we lost 5 - 2 to Score-a-lot-United.
We didnt play to badly with some good inter play between all players and we had much more opportunities at goal than the opponent team.
However, the 2 most noteable problems was the defence and finishing. Giovanni was missed in goal as we all rotated around and conceded some extremely soft goals. Most importantly though in defence we need to get goal side of the opponents attacking players. This means allways be between your own goal and the other player, theres to many times the attacker gets in behind the defence and they play a simple ball up to them for a 1 on 1 opportunity with the goalie.
As mentioned earlier we had many shots yet few hit the target maybe some more shooting practice is needed for all of us.
This week we need a win!

Rio Madrid - Score-a-lot United 2 - 5

Unfortunately we lost last match. I was not there and I cannot comment the match. However I can just make a simple consideration: we lost with the last team in the ladder :(

Team Formation and Tactics

Players for the next match:

Fixtures on the Lords' webpage

I came across with some strange things on the Lords's webpage and I asked Lords to clarify them:

1) The website unfortunately defaults to court 1 for every game
2) The 0.00 time means that for that week we are on a bye
3) Fixtures may be subject to change. Changes will be confirmed via 'Reminder Slip' or notification to me. However I will be able to notify you two to threes before the match only.

For this reason, it is very important you check out our blog prior each match. The blog will be updated with the latest info.

Rio Madrid - WonderBros 2 - 3

I know we lost another match. However this time we played a fantastic game. We were leading the match for most of the time. First half was played beautifully with a very good organization in the defence. Unfortunately one substitution was not enough and the people started to get tired at the end of the match. It is really a shame because we conceded a goal 37 seconds before the end of the game. It could be a better result.

Well done for everybody! In fact the opponent team was quite strong and it is currently leading the league.

Robercarl played as playmaker, distributing the ball and creating opportunities and in the same time assuring a very good cover in the defence.

Michael scored 2 goals in his new role as striker, replacing Paul. He managed to finalise the few occasions to goal we had.

Chung and Niall were very important when defending, blocking the attacks of our opponent team, running a lot.

Welcome to Carsten that joined the team yesterday. He also played a good game.

When a match finishes with 3 goals against, it means that the best player was the goalkeeper... and if you do not mind I would nominate myself as man of the match.

Evolution - Rio Madrid 6 - 0

Unfortunately we lost another game. The good news is that we conceded just 6 goals rather than 12 as last time. A little improvement of our defence even though our strikers were not able to score any goal this time for the absence of our best scorer Paul.

Akabusi FC - Rio Madrid 12 - 6

A terrible match was played today at Lords. First half was a disaster, with 5 goals of difference (6-1) even though one of them was an error of the referee !
Our team was not able to find the confidence to play as we had played last time. Our defense was literally swept away and we create very few occasions for scoring a goal.
During the second half the team improved a bit but nothing could be done to stop the opponent team.
Performance was not very good for everybody but the good news are:
Alex is recovering from his 9 year hibernation, playing much better than his first match;
James scored three goals today: two of them were very powerful free kicks !
Paul was active as usual even though he found the goal just twice (actually the second one was an own goal);
Robercal, our Brazilian, played a very good game. With his assists and his movement in the middle of the field he managed to control the team.
Robercarl was definitively the man of the match in spite of the bad result.

Unfortunately Niall lost one of his contact lenses during the match because he was hit by the ball and could not finish he match; and Micheal did not play as usual ... we expect more from you next time !

Thank you everybody for your contribution and I hope to win next time

Hardly Athletic - Rio Madrid 3 - 7

Awesome match yesterday night at Lords sporting club. Rio Madrid annihilated the opponent team with a great performance.
We welcome Robercarl that played his first match yesterday and will continue to play with us for the rest of the season.

Man of the match: It is quite hard to decide because everybody played very well. However, I think that Paul Hedley demonstrated something more. His speed and the feeling of goal are just some of the things that impressed us yetsterday night

Congratulation to Micheal and Paul that are our best scorers !

Two very promising performances so far gents, although last week was a loss I think we learnt a lot about how to play that style of soccer, especially setting up a wall quickly.

We also showed we have the potential to score goals which is a always a bonus. Start preparing for this weeks game!

Numbers for our shirts

Lords have said all players must be in correct uniform including numbers. Uniforms will be available in August and numbers will cost $8 each. Rio will cover the cost of the uniforms but unfortunately we have to pay the numbers.
I need to collect the money on Thursday !

Next Match

Next match will be at 8.20pm on 15/07 - Court 10.

Second Match

Unfortunately we lost the second game (7-5). However the team demostrated very good scoring skills with 5 goals scored, even though we missed a lot of opportunities. There had also been a lot of defensive mistakes and our opponet team was very solid with a very good understanding of each other, taking advantage of our mistakes.
Even though the result was not positive, I noticed a lot of margins of improvements and the people that played demonstrated a great potential.
Man of the match was Javier! Javier is visiting our Perth office from Simandou where he is working as senior hydrogeologist. He will help the team for another couple of games and I really hope to win next game !

First Match

Our first match was a great success (won 2-1) with two goals of Paul Hedley who is not in the picture :(

Congratulations to everybody!

Rio Madrid Blog

I decided to crerate a blog for our soccer team because everybody can interact with the tema even though you are not playing every week and to provide you with some important communications regarding the league.
This bloq will also contain some pictures of the games we will play and comments. I really hope you like the idea and contribute to the development of the site.
